OMEP in our Country Nigeria

OMEP in our country Nigeria could be likened to a tree, which has continued to grow slowly but definitely. The Socio-political nature of the country however dictated the uniqueness of the administration of OMEP in Nigeria.

The Planting of the Seed

Nigeria was first introduced to the activities of OMEP in 1968, when Mrs. Ibiyemi Bright (National President 1987 - 1992) attended a UNESCO-sponsored course in Denmark on the training of Pre School and School Teachers. During this course, participants especially those from Africa were asked to seek membership into OMEP so that their National Committees could have advantage of new developments in the area of Pre-School education through the OMEP Programmes.

THE GERMINATION

Having been watered twice by an ex-World President - Miss Margaret Roberts, in 1978 and again in 1980, OMEP seed in Nigeria began to germinate. A total of 12 years from the planting to the sprouting in 1980. By 1983, its activities located mostly in Lagos then, made tremendous impact on the establishment of the OMEP seedling in Nigeria and so it was accorded full membership of the World Body in that year.
